Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) has been a hotly debated topic. Though, I have not reached the age to consider HRT – I keep up on the controversy as I may one day face the decision to take, or not to take.
During a breast cancer discussion a very respected doctor made a comment “we have medicalized a natural occurrence in women.” He went on to note there are cultures that celebrate the transition of a woman. Of course, he is a man who has never experienced the issues of menopause! I do agree with him at the moment, but know my feelings may change when I hit menopause. I’ve heard of women who literally have such major difficulties they begin to mentally suffer. Nevertheless, I do have to wonder what women did before HRT became a huge option?
